About Agra Fort

Agra is a historical fort in the state of Uttar Pradesh and district Agra . It was built by Mughal emperor Akbar between 1565-1573. this fort was the main home of the  Sikarwar Rajputs until, mughals capture it and Mughals kings live in this fort until 1638, when they shifted their capital from Agra to Delhi. It was also known as the Lal Qila. After Mughals this fort was occupied by Marathas and later capture by the British. Agra fort was listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, the fort is  about 2.5 km northwest of its more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal.
